ABUJA – The All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter in Delta state has criticized Ovie Omo-Agege, the party’s nominee for governor and vice president of the Senate, for meeting with a group of APC members in the state that resulted in an impasse.

The meeting, which took place on Tuesday in Delta State, came to a standstill because, in the opinions of some faction members, Omo-Agege was a factor in the APC’s defeat in the state.

After the meeting, a party chieftain who spoke on the condition of anonymity claimed that Omo-Agege had been accused of improper planning, the exclusion of capable leaders, among other things, and that this development had contributed to the party’s defeat in the State’s recently concluded governorship election.

The Chieftain had also made note of the fact that Omo-Agege was the only person in charge during the governorship election, which caused strife within the party and, as a result, fewer party supporters.

Inana Michael, the state secretary for the Delta APC, stated that Omo-Agege is attempting to establish himself as a demi-god in Delta politics in response to this development on Friday during a phone conversation with journalists in Abuja.

Michael added that one of the things that worked against the APC in the state was his failure to mention the inability to satisfy members’ expectations during the governorship race.

Omo-Agege is attempting to establish himself as a demigod in Delta State, and what he anticipated was for the audience to come and tell him well done, but unfortunately, he could not get what he wanted.

“Also unfortunately for him, he could not control the crowd he invited, because people were saying he is a failure. He could not carry the people along and he could not meet their expectations. What he has been telling them is that he has already taken care of everything.

“He told them to just play cool and the result will be announced. But unfortunately, when the people went to the poll, what they met was different from what he has been telling them.”

The state secretary added that another significant element working against Omo-Agege and the party is the exclusion of leaders who can effectively run their local governments and wards.

“He believed he could recruit little boys as his aides to win the election, but that was not how it turned out. Elections require candidates who are well-known and qualified to run. He convened a meeting to appease them because their expectations had not been reached, and as a result of their response, there was a deadlock.

At the conclusion of the day, he declared that he will convene a group of 30 men to travel from ward to ward and urge the populace to stay with the party because he is confident of victory.
