Nasir El-Rufai, the governor of the Kaduna State, has charged some of his forebears with stealing public funds in order to construct residences in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and other locations.

The accusation was made by El-Rufai during a farewell media interview on the state-owned radio station KSMC’s Hausa service on Sunday, May 21.

According to El-rufai, one of the former governors allegedly used stolen funds to construct a mansion on Jabi Road in Kaduna GRA.

He issued a challenge to the state’s previous governors, demanding that they stand before the populace and swear on the Holy Qur’an that they never embezzled money from the government.

El-Rufai asserted that he didn’t steal any money from the state’s coffers.

“I can swear I never stole a kobo from the government coffers.”

In a similar vein, the governor gave his administration a passing grade for infrastructure improvement.

“The work we have started and the quality of the works, we are going to spend years enjoying them. It is not the type of roads they did in the past that, after two rainy seasons, the roads will spoil. These works we are doing, we are doing them with quality.

“I am happy with what I have seen, but there is still more to be done, because to us, we want people to enter Kaduna and see no untarred road anywhere.

“That was our wish, but due to the difficult circumstance our government met, we couldn’t do everything we planned to do, until we had to borrow before we could do what we did.”
