The Nigerian government, according to vice president Kashim Shettima, will support investors both domestically and abroad to the fullest extent possible.
Shettima addressed the crowd on Friday, July 28 at the second plenary session of the Russia-Africa summit in St. Petersburg, Russia. She was speaking to representatives from the business and political worlds.
According to the vice president, the Bola Tinubu administration is acting decisively to combat crime, punish offenders, deal with insurgency, and take all necessary measures to protect everyone’s lives and investments in Nigeria.
Shettima argued that the Tinubu administration is committed to advancing industrialization in Nigeria and diversifying the country’s economy into industries where it has a comparative advantage.
“The administration of President Tinubu recognizes the private sector as the engine of growth and a veritable partner in our economic agenda, and will therefore give the fullest possible support to foreign and domestic investors,” Shettima was quoted to have said in a statement by his media aide, Olusola Abiola.
“The administration has identified key growth drivers and sectors that are very important to the diversification of the Nigerian economy, including power, transportation, infrastructure, maritime, agro-processing, mining, manufacturing, petro-chemicals, food processing and textiles.
“The Nigerian government considers these sectors as key priority areas that will drive the country’s economic agenda.”
Shettima further urged Russian businesses to invest in key areas in Nigeria to maximise their gains by utilising the country’s wealth of potential.
Regarding the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Shettima stated that while Nigeria is not supporting any particular side, the nation is gravely concerned about the crisis’ potential effects on international peace and security.
“We call on parties to resolve the conflict through diplomatic means as that is the best option for resolving conflicts and fostering international peace and security.”
Shettima praised Vladimir Putin, the summit is organiser, for doing so.
