The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), an organisation that promotes Muslim human rights, has issued a warning on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s intended military action in Niger.
This was announced in a statement on Saturday by Hassan Indabawa, the chairman of MURIC’s Kano State branch.
The response from MURIC follows Tinubu’s request to the Senate to put an ECOWAS resolution into effect in Niger.
War, according to the group, is not a solution to the Niger situation.
The military would signal death for both Niger and Northern Nigeria, according to MURIC, because both nations suffer from uncurable cultural illnesses.
“With the present and historical ties between Nigeria and Niger, two friendly neighbours in West Africa, military intervention should never be considered as a solution to the issue of a government transition in the Niger Republic. A long shared border and related cultural and historical experiences serve as the foundation for relations between the two nations.
The Niger junta severed ties with Nigeria after a failed diplomatic attempt by ECOWAS, as reported by DAILY POST.
Last Friday, Tinubu’s proposal for military intervention in Niger was read aloud in the Senate’s plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
But, Nigerians’ responses to the request were conflicted.
On July 26, a military junta replaced Niger’s democratically elected government of President Mohamed Bazoum.
Consequently, ECOWAS, France, and the US called for the return to democracy in the region.
