The police claimed that during a gay wedding ceremony in Delta State, their agents detained at least 100 suspects.

It stated that the suspects would soon be paraded in a tweet on Tuesday.

Recall that President Goodluck Jonathan enacted Nigeria’s anti-gay law in January 2014, which imposes a 14-year prison sentence for those found guilty of having sex with people of the same sex.

With the police arresting 47 men in a hotel in Lagos the year before, the law was used for the first time in December 2019. The suspects were charged with openly showing their affection for people of the same sex.

The court granted bail to all of the accused, who all entered pleas of innocence.  Due to the police’s lack of diligent prosecution, the case was ultimately dismissed.
