In a world press conference held on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), expressed deep concern about the country’s reputation. The press conference was convened to address the release of President Bola Tinubu’s academic records by Chicago State University (CSU) earlier in the week.
Abubakar emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating,
“The reputation of our country is at stake,” Abubakar said in the press conference. “And that affects every Nigerian, here or wherever he or she is globally.”
He added, “The constitution prescribes the requirement for those who seek position in elective offices and it should not be disrespected by anyone who seek for such offices.”
Atiku also underscored the significance of fair and transparent elections in a democracy, noting that the process is as vital as the outcome. He expressed his concern that the results of the recent elections had put Nigeria’s global reputation at risk.
