After approximately 50 days in captivity, one of the five abducted female students from the Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA) in Katsina State has been freed.
The young woman was released from the kidnappers’ hideout and transported to Kuncin Kalgo in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara. From there, she was brought back to Katsina on Sunday. Although she is reported to be in stable condition, she is currently undergoing medical attention.
The Police Command Spokesman in Katsina State, ASP Aliyu Abubakar-Sadiq, confirmed this development to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Katsina.
It is noteworthy that the girls had been held captive since October 3, 2023, when gunmen invaded the rented apartment of the students situated behind Mariamoh Ajiri Memorial School, Dutsinma, around 2 a.m., firing shots indiscriminately.
At that time, the police had announced the arrest of a man suspected to be an informant to the terrorists. However, no information has been provided regarding the progress of the investigation since then.
