The Nigeria Police Force has officially acknowledged the apprehension of its officers involved in the abduction of a businessman in Abuja, who was coerced into paying N29.9m in January.
The force’s spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed this development on Tuesday through his X handle (@Princemoye1), asserting that significant measures have been taken to ensure justice prevails in the case. Adejobi expressed confidence in making progress and delivering justice, emphasizing, “We are making headway on this matter, and justice will be served, as some suspects have been arrested. Hakuna matata.”
The victim was reportedly abducted at one of his construction sites in Abuja by armed police officers, who detained him until he transferred the entire sum from his bank account to them.
Subsequently, they insisted he contact his relatives and friends for additional funds before they would release him. In a video shared by Punch Online, a narrator described the incident as more than extortion, categorizing it as a criminal act involving police robbery, kidnapping, and ransom collection.
The victim recounted being stopped by police officers dressed in black with AK-47 rifles, taken around Abuja to an unknown destination, and coerced into transferring funds to specified accounts.
