England have finished first in Group C at Euro 2024, and results in other matches have given Gareth
Southgate’s team a knockout path that avoids many of the top contenders.
Spain, Germany, Portugal, and France are all on the opposite side of the draw, meaning England
cannot face any of these teams until the final.
The Three Lions drew 0-0 with Slovenia on Tuesday, but still topped the group as Serbia and
Denmark also played to a goalless stalemate. Despite winning the group, they now need to win three
knockout games—the last-16, quarter-final, and semi-final—to secure a place in the final in Berlin on
14 July.
By winning the group, England have avoided a last-16 match against Germany and will instead face
either the Netherlands or the third-place team from Group E at 17:00 BST on Sunday in
Gelsenkirchen.
Currently, Romania, Belgium, Slovakia, and Ukraine each have three points in Group E, so England’s
opponent could be any of these four teams.
Interestingly, it’s actually the results in Group F on Wednesday that will determine who the Three
Lions face next. Stay tuned for the next update.
