Usman Ododo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, has been declared the winner of the Governorship election in Kogi State by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The results were announced by Prof. Johnson Urama, the returning Officer for the election from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, at the INEC state collation centre in Lokoja, the state capital.
According to Urama, Ododo of the APC secured 446,237 votes, while his closest competitor, Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), garnered 259,052 votes. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Dino Melaye, received 46,362 votes, and Hon. Leke Abejide of the African Democratic Party (ADP) obtained 21,819 votes.
“Ahmed Ododo having certified the requirements of the law is hereby declared winner and returned elected,”he said.
He also said the number of canceled votes in the areas where election did not hold was 16, 247 and could not substantially affect the outcome of the result.
