The Presidential Election Petition Court in Abuja abruptly adjourned the ongoing hearing of a petition filed by the former vice president Atiku Abubakar contesting the election of President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday due to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s alleged refusal to release some crucial electoral materials to the petitioner.

The PEPC was informed by Eyitayo Jegede SAN, who presided over the proceedings on Tuesday on behalf of Atiku’s legal team, that Atiku had paid up to N6m for the provision of certified true copies of the exhibits.

But he bemoaned the electoral body’s lack of openness and cooperation compared to what was needed and expected.

In the meantime, the PEPC has postponed further proceedings in the petition until June 7 to give INEC time to respond to Atiku and the PDP’s request for the documents.
