The Bauchi State Civil Service Commission (CSC) has taken decisive action by terminating the appointment of Ibrahim Garba, a Chief Secretarial Assistant (CSA) associated with the State Pension Board. The termination comes in the wake of serious allegations of misconduct and involvement in a salary/pension scam.
The decision was reached during the 17th plenary session of the Bauchi State Civil Service Commission held on August 1, 2023, in the state capital. In a press release signed by Saleh Umar, the Information Officer of the Bauchi State Civil Service Commission, it was revealed that Garba had been engaging in fraudulent activities related to pension payments.
According to Umar, Garba orchestrated a cunning scheme where he illicitly switched the bank account details of the late Audu Mohammed with his own. This manipulation resulted in the diversion of pension funds intended for the deceased. For a span of four years and seven months, Garba continued to receive an illegal pension, amounting to a total of N3,017,919.30. The press release further states that this ill-gotten gain will be recovered from Garba.
The termination of Garba’s appointment comes following his guilt being established by the disciplinary committee of the State Pension Board. His actions were deemed a violation of Public Service Rule (PSR) 0327(XI), which specifically addresses matters of financial embezzlement and misconduct.
Chairman of the Bauchi State Civil Service Commission, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, emphasized the importance of ethical conduct among civil servants. He urged them to uphold the principles outlined in the State’s Public Service Rule (PSR) as a guiding framework for their duties.
The termination of Ibrahim Garba’s appointment serves as a stern reminder of the zero-tolerance stance towards corruption and fraudulent activities within the Bauchi State Civil Service.
