The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has alerted Nigerians of a “scam alert” distributed by dishonest individuals via a fictitious EFCC Help Desk.
Remember that the scam alert could come in the form of phoney calls pretending to be from the assistance desk of the commission.
Its spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, claimed in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja that the trending “Scam Warning” on social media was a hoax.
For the avoidance of doubt, the EFCC does not have a desk like that, and any information that purported to come from the EFCC Help Desk was not created by the EFCC.
“The use of EFCC by the authors of the scam alert smacks of sinister motives.
”It is important that the public is put on notice, as the commission will not be liable should anyone become a victim of what is obviously a scam.
”The commission thus advises the public to be cautious and verify any questionable information with them,” he said.
