Nigerian chef Damilola Adeparusi, also known as Chef Dammy, has responded to the Guinness World Records’ denial of approval for her 120-Hour Cook-A-Thon. The cook-a-thon commenced in Oye-Ekiti on Friday, June 9, with the goal of cooking for a continuous 120 hours.
On Wednesday morning, Adeparusi successfully achieved her target of cooking for 120 hours, which was met with jubilation from some and criticism from others. Speculations arose regarding whether Adeparusi had followed the correct procedure and actually surpassed Hilda Baci’s record of 93 hours and 11 minutes.
Seeking clarification on the matter, Legit sent a press inquiry to the Guinness World Records on Tuesday, June 13. In response, the organization stated that the chef had not sought their approval before commencing the cook-a-thon. They emphasized the existence of procedures and rules that would have been provided to Adeparusi had she followed the appropriate channels.
Chef Dammy, in a post shared on her Facebook page, acknowledged that her 120-hour cook-a-thon was a personal test of her abilities rather than an attempt to break any records. She expressed her joy at successfully achieving her goal and conveyed her determination to persevere.
She wrote: “I stated this earlier that I embarked on this journey to test my capability not for any GWR.
“l am happy that I cooked for 120 hours. I am proud that I never gave up”
