In a recent development at a Dei-Dei Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja, a 29-year-old chef, Moses Ibor, was found guilty of stealing three cartons of Indomie instant noodles. The court sentenced him to one month in prison or an option to pay a N10,000 fine. Ibor, a resident of Apo Abuja, had pleaded guilty to the theft charge and sought leniency.
The complainant, Mr. Bashir Umar of Olajumoke market Dutse Alhaji in Abuja, reported the incident to the Dutse Alhaji police station on July 10. According to the prosecutor, Mr. Chinedu Ogada, Ibor committed the crime on the same date while Mr. Umar was in his shop. The convict sneakily entered the shop and made off with three cartons of Super Pack Indomie instant noodles worth N21,000.
However, the thief was caught in the act while trying to escape with the stolen noodles, and he was subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation. During the investigation, the three cartons of Super Pack Indomie noodles were successfully recovered from the thief. The court found Ibor’s actions to be in violation of Section 288 of the Penal Code.
