A Department of State Services (DSS) lawsuit asking for a 14-day extension of detention for suspended Central Bank (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele was dismissed by an Abuja Federal Capital Territory High Court.
The DSS’s application, which was reportedly covertly filed by its legal team on Wednesday, was presented to the vacation judge on Thursday and was predicated on allegedly new evidence it had found.
Justice Hamza Muazu made a decision regarding the application and dismissed it, citing an abuse of the legal system and a lack of jurisdiction.
According to information obtained by Public Republic, Emefiele was granted bail in the amount of N20 million by the Federal High Court in Lagos State.
In a ruling by Nicholas Oweibo, the presiding judge, said the charges against Emefiele were bailable.
Bail was approved with a single surety.
The government’s claim that it was missing a copy of Emefiele’s bail application from his alleged gun possession trial was rejected by the court.
There is proof that the government was served, according to Justice Oweibo’s ruling.
Emefiele’s attorneys, under the direction of Joseph Dauda, SAN, submitted the bail application.
Dauda had asked the court to take up the banker’s request for bail on self-recognizance, noting that his client had satisfied all requirements to make the request ready for hearing.
He noted further that the proof of service endorsed by the AGF’s office was in the court’s file.
