On a typical Wednesday morning in Gadan Village, Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State, worshippers gathered for the “Subhi Prayer” at the local mosque. Suddenly, a devastating explosion shattered the peace. Shafi’u Abubakar, a 38-year-old man with a long-standing inheritance dispute, set off a petrol explosion to express his grievances.
The blast injured 24 people, including 20 men and 4 children, and shook the entire village. Quick action by the Kano State Police Command ensured the victims were taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital. Fortunately, there were no fatalities, but the community remains traumatized.
Investigations confirmed Abubakar’s actions were driven by a desire for revenge against his family. He’s been arrested by the police, to the relief of the community, but the community faces a long road to recovery.
