An illegal market known as Kasuan-Dere that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) believed to be a haven for criminals and drug dealers has been destroyed.

On Tuesday, August 29, Mukhtar Galadima, the director of the FCT Department of Development Control, confirmed the news and said that the market on Hassan Musa Katsina Street, close to Kpaduma II in Asokoro Extension, was a hazardous area for locals and onlookers.

Galadima claimed that despite the administration’s steadfast efforts to sanitise the area, it had become a place where criminal activity takes place.

He claimed that criminal activity in the area was impairing the aesthetic value of the surrounding area and must be stopped.

He said, “We had destroyed the location roughly three times, but the annoyances persisted; this time, we are doing it for the last time, and it must remain; we need to sanitise the location and improve the aesthetic quality of the environment.

“It is also part of the current administration’s policy of sanitizing the city; this is one area where we are starting the exercise. The area has so much to do with security threats; information available to us revealed that there are some miscreants, drug dealers and many other men of the underworld.

“The operation will help us get rid of the hoodlums and drug dealers that have taken over the place”.
