Moments ago, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) brought the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, to a High Court in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama. Emefiele, donned in light green traditional attire with a cap, was escorted into the courtroom by EFCC officials.
His appearance in court this Wednesday afternoon is in response to a court order issued on November 2. Justice Olukayode Adeniyi, while ruling on an ex-parte application filed by Emefiele, ordered the EFCC to either unconditionally release him or present him in court on November 6 for a bail hearing.
Despite Justice Adeniyi reiterating the order on November 6, the EFCC failed to release or produce Emefiele in court. The courtroom is presently crowded, awaiting the arrival of the judge and the commencement of legal proceedings.
Details to emerge shortly
