In a recent announcement, Guinness World Records has officially confirmed that Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, has broken the record for the longest individual cooking marathon.

After a thorough review of all the evidence, it has been determined that Hilda Baci achieved a remarkable time of 93 hours and 11 minutes, surpassing the previous record of 87 hours and 45 minutes set by Indian chef Lata Tondon in 2019.

During her four-day culinary endeavor in May, Hilda Baci cooked over 100 pots of food, showcasing her exceptional skills and determination. However, it is worth noting that the organization deducted seven hours from her total duration due to an error made during one of her rest breaks early in the attempt, where she mistakenly took extra minutes.

The post further explains that Hilda Baci initially aimed to set a record of 100 hours, but due to the aforementioned deduction, her final total was adjusted. According to the guidelines for “longest marathon” records, participants are allowed a five-minute rest break for every continuous hour of activity. These rest breaks can be accumulated if not taken and serve as the only opportunity for participants to use the bathroom or sleep during the attempt.

While Hilda Baci’s achievement is remarkable, it is worth noting that another chef, Damilola Adeparusi from Ekiti, is currently attempting to surpass the existing record with a target of 120 hours. As of Tuesday morning, Adeparusi has already surpassed 100 hours in her cooking marathon. However, it remains uncertain whether Guinness World Records is aware of her ongoing attempt and if it will be officially recognized.
