The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Nigeria Office, has advocated for increased actions for wildlife conservation, calling for increased justice and prosecution for wildlife crime in Nigeria.
In the welcome address by the country representative of the UNODC-Mission in Nigeria, Oliver Stolpe, at the Launching of the International Consortium on Combating Wildlife Crime (ICCWC) Wildlife, Forest Crime Analytic Toolkit and the ICCWC Indicator Framework for Combating Wildlife and Forest Crime in Nigeria today at the Fraser Suites, Abuja. said that there is a weak justice for wildlife crime in Nigeria.
The launching of the tool kit which was done by the Minister of Environment, H.E Mohammed H. Abdullahi, represented by Mallam Jonah Stanley had in attendance several dignitaries including the European Union Ambassador, Head of UNODC Global Programme on Crimes that Affect the Environment; Representatives from UK, US, and Germany Ambassadors; Reps from the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Senior Directors of relevant agencies like NESREA, Customs, EFCC, NFIU.
ICCWC is partnering with Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), UNODC, INTERPOL, World Bank, and World Customs Organisation to strengthen criminal justice systems, Provide Coordinated of National, regional, and international levels to combat wildlife and forest crimes.
