Lawyer Levi Uzoukwu, representing the Labour Party (LP), has stated that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is lacking preparedness to defend its position at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal. Uzoukwu made this statement on Monday after the court’s adjournment due to the absence of INEC’s first defence witness.
Addressing reporters outside the court, Uzoukwu expressed confidence in the strength of his team’s case and their readiness to proceed, contrasting it with INEC’s apparent inconsistencies.
Uzoukwu asserted, “Given the contradictions and inconsistencies and what INEC has done, I’m sure they are not ready to defend this case. I stand to be proven wrong, but I would wish that they defend this matter so that the public will see more things about what happened during this election.”
Emphasizing the unprecedented nature of Nigeria’s February 25th presidential poll, the legal counsel reiterated that it is INEC’s prerogative to choose whether or not to present a witness or witnesses. He further affirmed his and his client’s readiness, stating that the LP is prepared at all times.
