In order to lessen the negative effects of gasoline subsidies on state residents, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has unveiled a comprehensive palliative support initiative.
Governor Sani presented the comprehensive palliative support initiative on Tuesday during a press conference.
Approximately 1,050,000 vulnerable people are expected to benefit from the initiative, which is supported by a N2 billion palliative fund provided by the federal government. This initiative is expected to help 210,000 economically disadvantaged households.
The governor announced that the palliative intervention would be implemented in three phases, with the first phase consisting of providing food to disadvantaged and vulnerable households.
While the second and third phases will focus on acquiring free buses to help with transportation issues as well as providing farmers and micro, small, and medium-sized businesses with fertilisers and incentives to help them grow.
He stated that the second and third senatorial districts of Kaduna State’s train service will be restored during the final two phases of the palliative intervention, which will also provide assistance to micro, small, and medium-sized businesses and address transportation issues.
Sani continued by saying that these actions are crucial for relieving the suffering of the populace.
The committee’s members praised the state government for taking an all-inclusive approach to bringing important stakeholders into palliative intervention and giving the most vulnerable and underprivileged groups priority, but they also made a case for other demographic groups.
Sani said the government was committed to the effective implementation of measures lined up in the three phases and had, therefore, put all necessary machinery in place to ensure the exercise is hitch-free, transparent, and equitable.
The press conference was also attended by Ayuba Suleiman, the state Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and other representatives from organised labour and civil society organisations, who form part of the palliative committee.
