The National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Barrister Julius Abure, has made a scathing accusation against the All Progressives Congress (APC), asserting that they have pilfered the mandate bestowed upon his party by the Nigerian populace.
Speaking on Sunday in Lagos during the inauguration of Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Caretaker Committees, as well as the unveiling of LP’s flagship projects for 2023, Abure maintained that the ruling APC would not find reprieve until they relinquish what he termed the “stolen mandate.” The LP’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, stands at the center of this contention.
Exuding faith in the Judicial system, particularly the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT), Abure expressed his conviction that justice would prevail in the ongoing electoral dispute of 2023.
Commending the electorate of Lagos for transcending tribal affiliations to back the LP resoundingly in the last general elections, Abure asserted, “APC has murdered sleep, they will sleep no more until they return the mandate they stole from us. They stole our mandate but they don’t know what to do with it. They don’t have an idea how to govern, and that is why they are inflicting hardship on Nigerians.”
In a pointed declaration, he conveyed, “Only Peter Obi and the LP have the solutions to the numerous challenges the ruling party has plunged the country into. We are ready to provide leadership and we will show Nigerians that we can provide a better alternative. The journey for a new Nigeria has just started, and we trust the judiciary to do the right thing.“
Highlighting the transformative effect of LP’s participation in the preceding general elections, Abure called upon discontented members to temper their disagreements and collaborate with the state executive, fostering the party’s greater good.
Earlier in the event, Pastor Dayo Ekong, the LP Chairman in Lagos, impelled the freshly sworn-in LGA and ward executives to perceive their oath as a solemn commitment to elevate the party and serve the citizens. She urged the executives to relentlessly pursue excellence in their undertakings, solidifying their dedication to usher in the anticipated change.
According to Ekong, everybody would benefit from the new Nigeria that would soon be birthed by the Labour Party.
The prevailing sentiment among LP ranks appears resolute as they navigate the path ahead.
