The N8,000 palliative announced earlier by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been deemed an insult to Nigerian citizens by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Kaduna State.
The NLC and TUC Chairmen in Kaduna, Suleiman Ayuba and Abdulahi Alhassan Danfulani, stated that Nigerians are not interested in any palliative but rather measures that could mitigate the effects of the removal of fuel subsidy, posed on its citizens, during the joint protest by organised labour on Wednesday, August 2.
Ayuba accused the Nigerian government of being vague about when it would improve the situation of the populace.
The labour leaders criticised the increase in public school fees and rejected the federal government’s proposal for a student loan, emphasising that everyone has a right to free education.
They demanded that all public schools reverse their policy of charging tuition in order to give low-income families’ children access to a high-quality education.
The Unions claimed that the protest was just a one-day national exercise to call the federal government to order and also tasked members to stay alert for further instructions from the national headquarters.
