Nigeria experienced yet another breakdown in its electricity grid around 2:42 am on Monday. Generation levels dropped sharply to 64.70 megawatts, with only Ibom Power operational, according to data from the Independent System Operator (ISO), a segment of the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
This incident marks the sixth grid collapse in 2024 alone. By 8 am on Monday, ISO data showed that electricity generation from Okpai, Geregu, and Ibom power plants had risen to 266.50 megawatts.
Jos DisCo confirmed the collapse, attributing the current outage in its franchise states to the loss of power supply from the national grid.
“This loss occurred in the early hours of Monday, leading to power disruptions across their feeder networks.”
Dr. Friday Adakole Elijah, the Corporate Affairs head at Jos DisCo, conveyed confidence in the grid’s restoration to ensure consistent power delivery to customers.
