It’s seemingly been ages since the Oscars served up any spicy drama, like the unforgettable Will Smith and Chris Rock showdown from two years back. This time, John Cena decided to stir the pot and add a dash of humor to the proceedings.
When Cena strutted onto the stage to present the award for Best Costume Design, he opted for an unconventional wardrobe choice – or lack thereof. In a nod to the importance of costumes, the wrestler-actor boldly went almost completely nude, using an oversized winner’s envelope strategically to cover his groin area.
He proclaimed, “Costumes, they are so important. Maybe the most important thing there is.”
This risqué move was a playful callback to a legendary Oscars moment when a streaker dashed across the stage during David Niven’s introduction of Elizabeth Taylor at the 46th Academy Awards, half a century ago. Cena, seemingly flustered, joked, “I can’t open the envelope,” prompting the quick-thinking host, Jimmy Kimmel, to step in and fashion a makeshift curtain for him.
Quite a way to drive home a point.
