The Jigawa State Police Command has announced the apprehension of three individuals in connection with the alleged theft of 48 goats in Babura and Kiyawa Local Government Areas. Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahmadu Abdullahi, disclosed to the press in Dutse on Thursday that the arrests were made in distinct operations conducted between Monday and Tuesday.
According to Abdullahi, suspects Abdullahi Usman (20) and Hassan Ado (22) collaborated with Tasiu Umar, who is currently evading arrest, to steal 26 goats valued at N1.3 million. The Commissioner explained that Hassan Ibrahim from Abari village in Niger Republic reported the theft of his goats worth N1.3 million to the Babura police station on January 22 at around 9 a.m.
Upon receiving the report, the command took swift action, resulting in the apprehension of Usman Ado and the recovery of eight goats in their possession. Further investigation revealed that the suspects had confessed to stealing the 26 goats and confirmed selling 18 of them to Abdullahi Amadu of Kunyafa village and one Mustapha of Madangana village, both of whom are currently at large, for a total of N210,000.
The Commissioner added that a third suspect, Ado Buba (25) from Dundubus village in Dutse, was arrested in possession of 22 goats suspected to be stolen.
“On Jan. 23, at about 4p.m., a patrol team attached to Kiyawa police division, while on patrol, had accosted Ado Buba aged 22 of Dundubus Fulani camp in Dutse, while in possession of 22 goats strongly suspected to be stolen,” he said.
Abdullahi said Buba during his interrogation confessed to have stolen the goats from Andaza village in Kiyawa.
“Later, the owner of the goats, one Adamu Maina of Andaza village was traced and he identified the goats as being his,” the CP added.
The police boss said the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
