Nasir El-Rufai, the governor of Kaduna State, challenged the state’s former governors on Sunday to demonstrate their lack of corruption.
El-Rufai challenged all former governors in the state to swear with the Holy Qur’an that they did not steal the state’s funds while in office in his farewell media chat on the Hausa Service of the Kaduna State Media Corporation.
Additionally, the governor defended his work since taking office in 2015.
El-Rufai has faced harsh criticism, though, for the way the state government has handled security issues like banditry and sectarian violence in Southern Kaduna.
On May 29, he will turn over power to Uba Sani, the incoming governor.
“I challenge the previous governors. Let them stand before the Kaduna State people and swear with the Holy Qur’an that they never stole from the public coffers,” he said. I promise that I never took a Kobo from the government’s funds.
“I am satisfied with what we have observed. The work we have already begun and its calibre. I am sure we are going to spend several years enjoying them.”
