Ahmad Kargi, a Nigerian man, was pleasantly surprised when a cement vendor unexpectedly returned his N400 balance after he had already left the shop. Ahmad shared his encounter in a post via X on Wednesday.
He explained that he had initially purchased the cement in the North at N8,200 per bag. To his amazement, the seller later contacted him to inform him of a price reduction to N7,800 per bag and generously offered to refund the N400 difference for each bag he had bought.
He wrote on X: “Today I bought cement at a rate of ₦8,200/bag, now, the seller called and said the price has been reduced to ₦7,800 so he will refund ₦400 for each bag. If not in the NORTH, where could this happen in Nigeria?”
In the meantime, the BUA Group’s management has provided an explanation for the unavailability of cement to Nigerians at the pledged ex-factory rate of N3,500 per bag.
This clarification comes in response to a seven-day ultimatum issued by two civil society groups, threatening to picket the company unless they comply with the demand for the sale of cement at the specified price.
Timothy Sogbeinde, the Creatives & Visual Identity manager at BUA Group, communicated to reporters on Monday, alleging that intermediaries and wholesalers were hindering Nigerians from accessing the reduced price.
