In relation to the theft of a newborn baby’s placenta, three people employed by the Emure-Ile Comprehensive Health Centre in Ondo State’s Owo Local Government Area have been detained.
This came to light after the new baby’s family complained that hospital staff allegedly failed to deliver the placenta to them a few days after the problem persisted without delivery of the placenta.
When explaining the incident, the father, 23-year-old Tunde Ijanusi, claimed that they were concerned about the alleged failure of those who delivered the baby to give them the placenta.
In addition, the baby’s paternal grandmother, Mrs. Funmilayo Ijanusi, claimed that hospital staff claimed a dog broke into the building and took the placenta.
She added that the hospital staff had also allegedly convinced the family to let the situation go.
Joy John, the child’s 19-year-old mother, expressed regret over the fact that she finally gave birth to a girl on June 15 at the Comprehensive Health Centre in Emure Ile after nine months of waiting.
She claims that “the happiness that usually accompanies the birth of a new baby is still missing as she, her family, and her neighbours are in a depressing mood due to the baby’s missing placenta.
Mrs. John likewise urged the appropriate government bodies to see that the suspects receive justice.
The case is still being investigated, according to Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the state police public relations officer (PPRO), who was contacted.
