During this year’s hajj pilgrimage in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, six out of the 95,000 Nigerian pilgrims have sadly passed away. Dr. Usman Galadima, the head of the Nigerian medical team, disclosed this information in Makkah during a pre-Arafat meeting.
The deceased pilgrims were from Osun, Kaduna, and Plateau states, with the causes of their deaths ranging from cardiac arrest to undisclosed illnesses. Dr. Galadima also mentioned that the medical team treated 30 pilgrims with mental health challenges, assuring that they were now in stable condition and would be able to perform the hajj.
Additionally, seven pregnancies were recorded among the pilgrims, while two miscarriages and one leg amputation due to diabetes were reported.
The medical team provided consultations to 15,860 Nigerian pilgrims and referred around 100 individuals to Saudi hospitals. Alhaji Zikirullah Kunle Hassan, the chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, confirmed that all 95,000 Nigerian pilgrims had been successfully transported for the pilgrimage.
