Two of three humanitarian workers kidnapped by ISWAP terrorists in Gamborun-Ngala, Borno State, have reportedly been rescued by Operation Desert Sanity 2 troops.
The rescued aid workers are employees of Family Health International (FHI360), an international non-governmental organization that provides humanitarian assistance to internally displaced people (IDPs) and resettled communities in Borno and other northeastern states.
According to numerous reports, the 21-Armoured Brigade, Bama soldiers and the terrorists engaged in a gunfight in the Banki axis of the Bama Local Government Area during which the two aid workers were saved.
Zagazola Makama, a security analyst in the Lake Chad region, was also told by sources that the victims jumped out of one of the terrorists’ vehicles and quickly identified themselves to the troops, while another member of staff fled into the bush amid intense gunfire.
However, it was discovered that two security guards who were abducted alongside the aid workers who fled into the bush have yet to be found.
This follows the event on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at around 4am, when an unspecified number of ISWAP terrorists carried out a silent raid on the home of FHI360 and abducted three aid workers and two security personnel.
So far, FHI360 has yet to release an official statement on the rescue of its staff.
