The organized labor in Taraba State has called for immediate government intervention to alleviate the economic hardships affecting Nigerians. Peter Jediel, the state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), conveyed the workers’ concerns during a protest on Tuesday. Stressing the peaceful nature of their activism, Jediel denounced violence or any subversion of their cause, asserting that “enough is enough.”
The primary grievances, as outlined by the labor leaders, revolve around perceived failures in policy formulation and implementation. They argue that these shortcomings have had adverse effects on both workers and the nation as a whole. The labor representatives are demanding the swift implementation of previously agreed-upon agreements with workers.
Protesters issued a warning, stating that failure to address their demands before March 2 could lead to severe economic consequences. They emphasized that the ultimatum underscores the seriousness of their determination and the urgent need for government action. Additionally, they encouraged workers to be prepared for a potential escalation, indicating a sentiment of disillusionment with unproductive dialogues and a readiness for more decisive action, as expressed by the labor leaders.
